When first heard about I, Robot, I immediately dismissed it as yet another sci-fi summer blockbuster movie with wisecrackin' will as our hero and I wasn't too keen on watching it. The title didn't help pique my interest either, I thought the title was "I-Robot" and not "I, Robot" and made it sound too much like an Apple product (though I must say, the robots did look strangely like an i-Mac, I can even imagine them coming in different colors...)
However I started hearing a lot of good feedback about it and decided to check it out and see if I was wrong about the movie. I wasn't, it truly was of a sci-fi summer blockbuster with wisecrackin' will as our hero. What surprised me was that I enjoyed it, which meant that 1. It really was a good movie or 2. I am a slave to the Hollywood moviemaking machine. Either way, I liked it... it wasn't dumbed down to an insulting level and it didn't take itself too seriously like A.I (which required some patience but I still liked, even with its "alien
ex machina" ending). In fact, despite the not so subtle foreshadowing and the waaay too many slow-mo, flying through the air while shooting accurately action scenes present to remind you that you are indeed watching a summer movie, it thought it was pretty smart. Heck, I found myself intrigued during the scene where someone was asking why robots, being the glorified toasters that they are, huddled together when stored in the dark or seeked out light on their own...too bad that issue was never tackled again.
As for humor, it's Will Smith, he gets all the wisecracks needed in a Will Smith movie, but personally, the funniest moment was when a robot jumps onto will's Audi (oh and there's a lot of product placement too... if you're sharp, you'll see a box from pizza hut) smashes the windshield, grabs the hero and explains "you are experiencing a car accident".. haha! I think I was the only person who laughed out loud...hehe..
Since I’m on the subject of movies (and have nothing better to do) here are some of the movies I'm looking forward to...
1. Constantine - I think its based yet on another DC comic book character, John Constantine (played by Keanu Reeves), a sort of supernatural detective. He's made a few guest appearances in the sandman series and I've always wanted to read the comic book.. but alas, like LXG it seems I’ll see the movie first. I just hope Keanu doesn't "whoa" his way through the movie.
2. The Village - Another M. Knight Shyamalan movie, so you
know there's a twist in the end, you just have to see if you can guess it before the end. But still, this guy knows how to build the suspense, to let your own imagination do the scaring, so this movie should be fun.
3.Alien vs. Predator - Hah! Even after being horrified by Freddy vs. Jason (horrified meaning I found the movie to be horrible, it was a movie so bad I found it funny) I'm definitely going to watch this, to satisfy the geek in me. Besides, little green men are for sissies. If it isn’t 8 feet tall, has acid for blood, and a mouth inside a mouth, why bother?

Yes, I, Robot is an insult to Isaac Asimov's story... but heck, an action flick is an action flick. No brainer movies will always continue to astound as, as it gives us time to relax and unwind, and not think at all. That's also why we enjoyed movies like Fast & the Furious, XXX, Chronicles of Riddick, and other Vin Diesel movies. =P
to christian: i, robot isn't exactly a no-brainer. i think it was a real sci-fci flick packaged as a summer blockbuster. well, then again, my favorite recent movies were new york minute, mean girls and spider-man 2.
this movie year is really gonna be full-packed with exploding action scenes and a whole lot of sequels. a lot of nice movies that we can all watch! something for everybody. brace yourselves.
nga pala, on sequels, stars wars episode 3 is no longer just episode 3. it's entitled: revenge of the sith (dapat nga daw revenge of the jedi but they thought it was too much of a give-away).

i didn't think i,robot was a no brainer.. it was pretty average in terms of thinking required, which is ok as long as it isn't insultingly dumb...
how about catwoman? let's watch it in the weekend. and lambast it afterwards... :)
[Po], so you actually consider I, Robot as a sci-fi movie? I can't find anything scientific about it... the original story was sci-fi though, but the movie... um... hahahaha! If Will Smith said: "Putting the central plexus deflector array into asynchronous modulation, and dispersing a wide-band tachion beam should, in theory, disable the robot platonic feedback system and create a system overload." Or he could have just made it Hollywood sci-fi style: "We can upload a virus into the core. Giving the robots a 'cold'" hehehe. C'mon, you get the whole story by just watching the trailer (just like Star Wars EP2)
Bourne Supremacy, Catwoman, or I, Robot? No contest, the supreme wins! =P (at least in my book)
The Village hopefully won't be another Signs (especially since it's Joaquin Phoenix again).
i'm disappointed with the bourne film. i think a major, major part of the book (his longstanding feud with carlos the jackal) was omitted, as did the first bourne movie(which focused on the government's ploy to get bourne back).
the only consolation is the casting of julia stiles as marie st. jacques, bourne's wife-to-be. although i have my doubts as to her successful portrayal, i AM partial to julia stiles, so i'm ok with that.
ayoko kay julia stiles. hindi ko nga gets kung bakit siya sikat eh... hindi naman siya maganda. hindi rin siya sexy. wala siyang ka-appeal appeal.

Down to You? Sobrang nagsisi ako na napanood ko yun...sayang pera. But I'm also partial toJulia Stiles due to 10 Things I Hate ABout You. Bout the Bourne movie I was also sooo disappointed with the first film, havent watched the 2nd one though. But I guess I was disaapointed because I such a big fan of Ludlum's trilogy.
catwoman? from what i've heard, the movie is really really bad (and not even in a funny way) i'm not sure i'd watch it even if just to make fun of it afterwards..
let's face it, whenever a book is turned into a movie, it's rare that the adaptation is truly faithful,plots and events will always be removed or drastically changed.. either because they just make the movie too long or they just wouldn't work as well in a movie as they would in a book. so if you watch a movie and compare it to the book, you'll almost always be disappointed. try and appreciate the movie for what it is, and you just might enjoy it.

you're right about that, [alekos], that's why LOTR became such a hit, cuz even though it was adapted from the book, it didn't just tried to be a movie version, but bigger, and loaded with emotional appeal. (talk about elves joining the Battle of Rohan... sniff sniff)

if you want movies which are REALLY faithful to the book, watch (or read; anyway it doesn't matter because the movies are so faithful) "The Stepword Wives" or "Rosemary's Baby", both adapted from books by Ira Levin.
Whoa..worse than freddy vs. jason? That IS bad, at least freddy vs. jason was silly enough to laugh at..hehe. Thanks for the heads up, iiwasan ko na catwoman, even the 65 peso Quiapo dvd of it.
